Many textbook publishers have or include question banks that can be used to build quizzes with. Feel free to bring one along for in-class importing into your course.

This workshop is an intermediate session as it will give hands on experience attending a session in the LiVE environment.
Experience firsthand what it's like to be a student in the system while receiving an introduction to the tools and technics available in LiVE.
Pre-Requisites: Intro to LiVE, experience in LiVE or other web conferencing systems as an instructor or participant.
Requirements: Laptop or desktop computer, headphones or a quiet place to listen through speakers,  a headset microphone if you wish to communicate verbally.  Participants must first visit the system check page to confirm your computer is capable of running LiVE: system check Participants must also enter the audio configuration room before the start of the session.  You can run a simple audio setup wizard to confirm that your audio is ready to go at the start of the session. audio setup

Camtasia is a powerful tool for creating narrated Screen Recordings on your computer.  Camtasia can produce professional quality results with relative ease of use. 
This session will introduce some tips and tricks for creating and editing your own Screen Recordings and software demos.
Please note that Camtasia is not a free application; however there is a 30 day trial as well as an educational discount.  It also requires a reasonably recent computer to run properly.

Being able to manage the users quickly and easily will insure a smooth session where you truly replicated a classroom scenario from a distance.

Tracking Competencies/Learning Outcomes/Objectives in LEARN - Focus for Instructors/Developers, Department Heads

 

The Competencies tool in LEARN has the ability to automatically track and report custom Competencies, Learning Objectives, and Outcomes.  The tool has a sophisticated and customizable structure that allows for objectives to be tracked based on content, grades, discussions participation, elements of a rubric, individual questions or groups of questions in a quiz, etc.
This session will introduce the tool and give an in-depth overview on how to apply it to your new or existing courses.

  LEARN - Developing a Better Course with HTML templates and CSS

LEARN - Developing a Better Course with HTML templates and CSS (no coding experience neccissary)

Instructors/Developers can use HTML templates and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to improve consistency in the look and feel of their LEARN content.  Using HTML templates can improve accessibility as well as make use of advanced features such as imbedding Cloud based applications, videos, or other multimedia. 

If it could be built for the web, it can be built in your course.
There are no pre-requisites for this session.  An understanding of what HTML is, and a familiarity with LEARN will be assets.  No HTML coding experience required.

  Multiple Choice Test-writing Clinic

Do you dislike reading multiple choice questions with statements that are often unclear and intentionally tricky? Worse, are the answers you are given to choose from often confusing and bewildering, e.g. “a & d,” “a & b,” “a & f,”  “all of the above,” “none of the above”? Do you want to create multiple choice questions to assess complex learning rather than trivial recall? If you answered yes to one of the statements, this clinic is for you!

The workshop will focus on writing clear multiple choice test questions. It will be offered in a “clinic” format allowing small group work with immediate feedback to improve your existing teacher-created multiple choice test questions. Sign up and bring 8-10 samples of multiple
choice tests you have created (not from a publisher). The workshop will be limited to 8 participants.

This series of 3 workshops is intended to build on knowledge and skills related to developing and delivering Service Learning projects as part of courses and programs at RRC.

“Expand and support the use of Service Learning in RRC programs” is one of the actions in the RRC Strategic Plan for 2012-2015. The following DRAFT definition has been developed for use at RRC by the Service Learning Strategic Action Plan Committee. “Service Learning is an experiential and enriching learning methodology that combines teaching, learning, and reflection to effect change and foster civic responsibility through engaging students in addressing authentic community needs.”

This workshop will include a 20 minute video with Service Learning expert, Barbara Jacoby, PhD, followed by a discussion about a critical component of Service Learning projects at RRC -
