A Gas Turbine and Overhaul Technician works in a facility that has a dedicated engine overhaul, heavy maintenance or repair shop capable of disassembly, inspection and reassembly of internal engine components using engine manuals and engine-specific tooling.
Unique in Canada, Red River College offers this program as both a full-time program and as an apprenticeship program. The apprenticeship program is conducted in partnership with Apprenticeship Manitoba, and StandardAero Ltd. StandardAero is one of the world’s largest aviation service businesses in the world, and Winnipeg Manitoba (home to Red River College), is where over 1,600 employees work at their aircraft engine overhaul facility. Red River College has the expertise and experience having conducted this training over the last decade.
The Gas Turbine Engine Repair & Overhaul Program is based on a nationally recognized curriculum and occupational standard from the Canadian Council of Aviation & Aerospace (CCAA) and prepares students with knowledge and skills to repair and overhaul gas turbine engines. Skills taught in this program include referring to and following technical manuals, reading and interpreting technical drawings, and problem solving skills to disassemble, repair and reassemble engines.
