Featured training for June 2017: Verbal De-Escalation Skills
Red River College is introducing new verbal de-escalation training for the approximately 1,200 RRC faculty and staff who work on the “front lines” with students and other members of the community.
The Verbal De-Escalation Skills 1-day workshop will enable you to organize your thinking about how behavior escalates and how to respond appropriately in the moment.
This training will kick off at EDC and NDC in June 2017. Other campuses will start to receive training in Summer and Fall 2017, based on timing preferences.
The seminar will then be delivered on an ongoing basis at several College locations each year to ensure that the training reaches as many staff as possible.
Your facilitators are our own certified RRC staff (certification is through the Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Program delivered by the Crisis Prevention Institute CPI) – check out our esteemed group in the photo!
In this seminar, you will advance your skills to:
- Recognize signs of escalation in another person
- Respond with appropriate verbal de-escalation approaches
- Understand the RRC procedures to follow when responding to escalating situations
Please note that physical interventions are not covered in this training course.
All staff are welcome to register, but those who work directly with students and the community are specifically encouraged to attend.
