Gain hands-on experience with horticulture, arboriculture, turf maintenance, and more.
The program is an introduction to the different types of work available in industry. You will visit greenspace sites and businesses, enhancing your educational experience and future employment opportunities. A major component of the program is integrating classroom experiences with hands-on learning, in order to develop the practical skills sought by employers. Participation in the physical work required by industry is essential to your success in the program, and will be stressed as a major component of each course.
This program develops the foundational knowledge and skills you’ll require to work in landscaped areas such as parks, golf courses, athletic fields, botanical gardens and cemeteries as part of a larger crew. The program focuses on the following:
- Turf maintenance
- Residential landscape construction
- Garden maintenance
- Equipment maintenance and operation
- Irrigation systems
While in this program, you will attend the Manitoba Golf Superintendents Association and Landscape Manitoba annual conferences, and participate in numerous other field trips.
Prior to starting the program, you will be invited to attend a program overview information session, and to participate in a math skills diagnostic testing session that will advise you of your program readiness.
