Women’s Volleyball Recruits

2017/18 Season

sara-meisnerThe Red River College Women’s Volleyball team is excited to announce  that Sara Meisner will be joining the team for the 2017/18 season. She is currently a first year student at University of Manitoba who will be transferring to Red River College next fall. She graduated from Ashern Central School in 2016 on the honour roll and received top graduating female athlete. She played on both the junior varsity and varsity volleyball teams starting in the ninth grade, and assisted in bringing home five banners. She has competed in five high school provincial championships in volleyball, as well as one in curling. She is a dedicated multi-sport athlete who also played on the school’s baseball, badminton, and beach volleyball teams. Sara had the opportunity to play for the Winman volleyball club, where she finished fourth in her division at Nationals. During her spare time she assists in coaching the junior varsity team at her high school in Ashern. She is looking forward to taking my volleyball skills to the next level and getting a degree in nursing at Red River.

2016/17 Recruits

Sydney Curell is a high school senior and will graduate in June with honours from Westwood Collegiate. Sydney started her love of volleyball at Lincoln middle school and continued her participation in school volleyball by playing both Jr. Varsity and Varsity volleyball for Westwood. Sydney has had the benefit of experiencing different coaching philosophies by Sydney Curell Head Shotbeing a setter for various club teams including Jr. Wesmen, Fury, Visions and Joust. Last year she helped lead her team to a Silver Medal at nationals. She is currently enjoying playing for the SISU U18 volleyball team. When not playing indoor volleyball you can still find her on the court as a certified level 1 official. Sydney is looking forward to being a setter for Red River College’s volleyball team in September and starting on her path to becoming a biomedical engineer.

anikaAnika Gray is a high school senior and will graduate in June with distinction and honors from Killarney Collegiate. Anika started her love of volleyball when she moved to Killarney, Manitoba at age 11. She continued this passion for volleyball all the way through her school years. As a result, Anika has had the opportunity to participate in five provincial gold medal games. Over the course of her participation, she and her team have collected one second place and four consecutive first places. In her grade 10 year, she further gained the honor of receiving a provincial all-star award. Outside of school, she has worked her way through many club seasons as well, getting a bronze medal last year in division two, tier one. She has currently completed her final club season as a Killarney Raider. When not on the court, you can find her running with her track and field team. Anika is looking forward to playing for Red River College come September and starting her path in the Business Administration
