Block Therapy

What is Block Therapy:

Exercise & Meditation all in one

In a Block Therapy class the individual lies on a therapeutic tool called the Block Buddy (supplied) for a minimum of three minutes in various positions throughout the body. Wood is used as the therapeutic tool because, unlike artificial materials like foam or plastic, it shares similar density to bone. With gravity and body weight, the Block Buddy is able to sink deeply into the tissue all the way to the bone. This pressure brings increased blood and oxygen into the area warming the connective tissue and “melting” the powerful seal between the layers of unhealthy restrictions. The student is taught to use diaphragmatic breathing to bring into the body up to 600% more oxygen. This combination of increased oxygen, the freeing of adhesions, proper posture and alignment can bring so much relaxation to the body. The class is all done lying down on a yoga mat and we stay in each position for 3 minutes working in different areas or the body each week. Anyone that has pain, headaches, depression, anxiety, or digestive issues can really benefit by these classes.  Blocks and yoga mats are supplied for all of the classes.

Block Therapy:

Week 1 – Core  Class:  We work on releasing the compressed tissue in your stomach and rib cage to get deeper access to the diaphragm muscle. This helps benefit all the systems in the body with better functioning of the diaphragm which dramatically increases oxygenation to the cells and the abdominal organs. Heart and lungs receive improved blood and energy flow allowing the body to function more efficiently as a whole. This class wraps up with some amazing back positions if tolerated. If not, the block can be placed behind the head to finish with some relaxation time.

Week 2 – Leg/Pelvis class:  We work on melting the compressed tissue in your pelvis and legs and improve circulation to your organs of reproduction. It all benefits muscle function and improves the appearance of tissue. This class is a great class if you have hip, lower back, knee or foot pain.

Week 3 – Head/Neck/Shoulders class:  We work on melting compressed tissue in your upper body, arms, neck and face. This improves muscle function and tissue appearance and realigns the head taking pressure away from the upper back and neck. Increased circulation benefits all the structures in the area, including the brain, hair, eyes and thyroid gland. This provides an improvement in the quality and appearance of your skin.  This is the perfect class if you have neck/shoulder pain or headaches. It is the most relaxing of Block Therapy classes.

Week 4 – Core  Class:  We work on releasing the compressed tissue in your stomach and rib cage to get deeper access to the diaphragm muscle. This core class will have some new positions rather than repeating the same positions as week 1.

About the Instructor

jmhwellnesslakepicMy name is Joanne Holt and I  have been a personal trainer through The Manitoba Fitness Council/Can Fit Pro since 2004.  One big reason I became a personal trainer was because after years of struggling with chronic pain due to a repetitive strain injury I healed through pilates and resistance training so I wanted to work towards helping others do the same.   In early 2015, I became a Certified Block Therapy Instructor and now teach this program to all ages and all ages and body types. As a Block Therapy instructor, I am really taking the body to the next level of healing by working with the connective tissue in YOUR body and teaching YOU how to realign the body so it works better.  I have a huge passion for helping people with pain and working in the connective tissue system of the body using Block Therapy and other modalities as well.  As an exercise instructor and trainer, I want to share my enthusiasm, encourage a happier lifestyle, and help you realize what your body is capable of.
