Q-What does it cost to use the recreation and fitness facilities at RRC?
A-Membership prices vary based on whether your an Alumni, Associate or Community member. You can review our prices here.
Q-Why can’t I walk in and purchase a membership and start using the facility the same day?
A-Currently we are limited on space and want to provide the first opportunity to students and staff to use the facility without overcrowding. To ensure we are able to meet the needs of our students and staff without causing overcrowding issues we do monitor the number the number of memberships we sell to alumni, associates and community members.
Q-Why do I have to bring my RRC ID card to the gym every time?
A-We are required to track the number of people who are using the facility this helps us determine. We also need to know who is in the facility in the event that something happens.
Q-Why can’t I take my bag into the facility (Loft, Gym, EDC Fitness Facility)
A-Bringing your bag into the facility is a safety hazard. Even leaving it against the wall someone could trip over it. It also increases the chances something may get taken from it. That is why we provide free day lockers for our members to use.
Q-Why do I have to wear a full t-shirt and not just a tank top or sports bra?
A-Shirts should cover full chest and back to prevent MRSA, ringworm and the like from being passed from skin to pad/mat contact (even through you should clean your machines after use, unfortunately not everyone does! T-shirts lacking the appropriate material contribute to excessive sweat and moisture which can damage equipment. Modest dress prevents anyone from being offended by what others are wearing (or not wearing).
Q-Why can’t I drink sports drinks or shakes when I am working out or using the gym?
A-water if spilled will dry up easily, even if electronics get wet we have a better chance of the equipment still being functional after drying. Sports drinks, smoothies, etc. tend to be sticky and hard to get when in cracks, panels and electronic parts, therefore causing damage to the equipment. As well they are much stickier and remove the finish of the gym floor and or create a hazard for those playing sports on the gym floor.
Q-Will I have to wait to use equipment?
A-During peak hours, there is a 30-minute limit on high-demand cardiovascular equipment. Depending on the time of day you exercise, there might be a short wait for certain equipment.
Q-What do I do if I have lost or forgotten my RRC ID card?
A-One-time entry can be gained by presenting a photo ID and/or reciting your membership/student or staff number to the Customer Service Desk. After the initial reprieve, any lost card must be replaced. RRC students and staff should replace their College-issued ID cards through the procedures outlined by the College.
Q-Why is there a charge for Group Fitness classes?
A-The Group Fitness programs, are a user fee self-funding program offering. In an effort to keep membership rates as low as possible (i.e. free), we only charge members for group fitness if they take the classes. Without a class fee we would not be able to offer these classes and purchase equipment for new classes.
Q-Where is the Lost & Found?
A-If you have left a personal item at the North Gym, please see the Customer Service Desk staff for assistance. Clothing and items of a smaller value ($25 or less) are kept in our lost & found. Once a month, the lost & found is packed up and unclaimed items are donated to charity. Items of a greater value are given to Security Services.
Q-Why can’t I wear street clothes to work out?
A-These articles of clothing may have buttons, zippers, rivets that can damage the equipment vinyl. Although you may only wear clean clothes, not everyone does, so we ask that you don’t wear them. Jeans and other materials wear down the fabric and limit the life of the work-out machines.
Q-Can I bring in my own personal trainer?
A-No, personal trainers who are not employed by the RRC are prohibited from doing business in our facilities. We offer the services here and would be glad to provide them with access to a certified personal trainer.
Q-Where can I use my cell phone?
A-For your safety, privacy, and the respect of others, turn off your cell phone or set it to silent/vibrate mode. You may use your cell phone only in the lobby.
Q-Can I take photos or video in the facilities?
A-No photographs or video shall be taken within our facilities. The intent of this policy is to maintain respect for the rights and privacy of members by preventing pictures without their consent. Individuals wishing to take pictures or use a video recording device in our facilities must have approval from the Manager or designate.
Q-I want to put up posters or handout flyers in the facilities, can I?
A-All posters and flyers must be submitted to the front desk for the Manager/designate to approve flyers/posters. Items displayed in areas other than the designated bulletin boards will be removed. Advertisements will not be displayed on front counters.
