The start of the winter term marks the return of Rebels Sports to RRC. Both basketball teams returned to MCAC/NIAC action with a pair of games against the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers.
On Friday at CMU, both Rebels teams defeated the Blazers. The men’s team earned a 91-83 victory, Chris Demauleon-Bartolay lead the team with 24 points and 8 rebounds while forward Steve WIllamson added 20 points and 12 rebounds. The women Rebels completed the Friday night sweep with a 55-49 victory. Guard Lacey Finnbogason had a strong game with 18 points and 7 rebounds.
Saturday night was not as kind for the Rebels, as they dropped both contests to the Blazers. The men’s team fell 100-64, Willamson with a team high 18 points. The women’s team fared slightly better, losing 65-43 to the Blazers. Guard Zera Lynn Panesa led the Rebels with 15 points in a losing effort.
In NIAC standings, both men’s and women’s teams sit in 5th place with a 3-3 records, while in the MCAC, the women are in 2nd place, men’s team in 3rd. Both teams host the AFLBS Crusaders (Plymouth,MN) in NIAC regular season play next weekend, with games Friday January 12 (6pm start) and Saturday January 13th (12pm start).
The Rebels volleyball and Futsal teams also start this weekend, with the volleyball teams on the road against CMU and Providence University College and Rebels Futsal hosting the PUC Pilots on Saturday January 13th (6pm start.)
