The Rebels men’s and women’s soccer teams finished their respective MCAC season’s this past weekend, unfortunately for both teams, finishing just outside the playoffs.
The women’s team earned 4 points this weekend, first by defeating the Brandon Bobcats in Brandon on Saturday 1-0. Julia Friesen was the lone goal scorer, and GK Brittany Derkacz picked up the shutout. On Sunday, the Rebels at home earned a scoreless 0-0 tie with the CMU Blazers, earning Derkacz her sixth shutout of the year. Somehow, even with that accomplishment and a team 4-3-3 record, the women’s team finished in 5th place by one point and missed the playoffs.
The men’s team played tough in their last two games with a roster depleted with injuries but came up short losing to BU 3-0 and CMU 6-1. The Rebels finished the year with a 2-1-7 record and in fifth place.
The MCAC Soccer Final Four championships will take place this weekend, Oct 28-29 at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex, hosted by the CMU Blazers. Visit www.mcacathletics.ca for the fulll schedule and results.
