After scoring a hat-trick and being named Player of the Game in a seesaw semifinal game against BU last weekend, Cesar Carvalho and the Red River College Rebels got to raise the Men’s Futsal championship trophy on Sunday.
In Sunday’s Final, Carvalo found the scoresheet once in his Rebel’s 6-4 victory over Providence University College. The 6’2 forward from Sao Bernardo do Campo, Brazil, played an excellent 2017 Copa de la Paz tournament and was a major factor in both of Red River’s wins, setting up numerous goals and playing with much needed passion.
In the beginning of Sunday’s Final against the host PUC Pilots, Red River College found themselves trailing less than thirty seconds after the first whistle. The home crowd was ecstatic after a booming shot put their team ahead so early, but it was Carvalho who weathered the storm and set up teammate Alex Castro with a beautiful feed to tie the game shortly after. It was one of several assists that Carvalho had in the win and it was an integral part of Red River overcoming early momentum.
Carvalho got his lone goal of the game in the second half when he tied the game 3-3. That would also prove to be a vital point in the game as RRC never gave a lead back and went on to win 6-4, crowned the 2017 Men’s Futsal champions.
