RRC Resident Meal Plan

Meal PlansRRC Resident Meal Plans are for students enrolled at RRC who live in the residence for 30 or more consecutive days during the Fall and/or Winter terms. Meal Plans can’t be transferred or shared, which means you can only purchase food for yourself, not for others.

After signing theCampus Living Meal Plan Contract and paying the Residence Fees, your Meal Plan balance will be placed on your student card.

Meal Plan Cards work on a declining debit system at any RRC Winnipeg-campus Food Services location (alcohol purchases, Red card, and Tim Horton’s cards are not permitted on the Meal Plan card). Extra dollars can be added to your account at any time

Food Services locations, hours, and menus can be found here.

To check the balance of your meal card, please refer to the receipt of your most recent food purchase.

Pricing

The Meal Plan options below are priced for a 4 month (120 days) term.  All Meal Plan options are adjusted to match a student’s term timelines.  At RRC there are many programs that have specific start and end times and the Meal Plan can be adjusted to reflect any timeline.  Each student will fill in the Meal Plan contract with their respective term timelines and prices will be adjusted.  Your total meal plan fees will be the daily rate of your selected plan multiplied by the number of days on your contract plus a $25.00 admin fee.

**Very important** All Residents must choose a new meal plan EACH term (Fall/Winter) that they are living in Residence. At the end of each term any leftover meal plan dollars are added to the balance of the new terms meal plan.

The cost of the RRC Resident Meal Plan is included in the price of single and double rooms at the Residence. For more information about residence rooms, see Room Options.

Moving out of Residence

At the end of the residence contract (ie. the resident is moving out) a resident with a remaining meal plan balance (minimum $20.00) can apply to have the meal plan dollars transferred onto a RED Card*(Red River College Food Services taxable gift card with no expiry date). RED Card applications must be received within 30 days of the contract end date or the balance is forfeited to the College. *Applications are given to each resident with their move-out information

Tax-exempt Status

Canadian tax laws currently allow for tax-free meals for students on a Meal Plan; however only a Red River College student living in Residence for 30 or more consecutive days, who has subscribed to the Tax free Meal Plan is qualified to receive these benefits. If the purchaser is not the Meal Plan subscriber, or is purchasing food for others, the cashier may keep the Card and report the incident to the Campus Living Office. Fraudulent use of Meal Plan cards to purchase food for other people may result in loss of the tax exemption privileges.

Kitchen

Preparing Food in Residence Rooms

Residents are provided with microwaves to prepare food in their rooms and the common area lounges. The use of toasters and other small cooking appliances (ie: anything that becomes hot) is not allowed in rooms as proper ventilation and counter space is not available, and single rooms do not have kitchen sinks.

Residence kitchens do not include dishes, flatware, or utensils so it’s a good idea to bring your own supplies. While it’s possible to share your kitchen items with other residents, don’t count on someone else bringing the items you need!

Do not remove items from the cafeteria (plates, trays, utensils).

For more details about RRC’s Meal Plan Policies, read the Campus Living Meal Plan Contract.
