How to Use PaperCut [MAC]

What is PaperCut

PaperCut is a software program used to manage print jobs on campus including tracking how much you have printed, when, where and cash management of each print job.

Credits can be loaded to your PaperCut account using one of three methods:

  1. At the PaperCut pay station in the atrium beside the elevators
  2. Online, as described below in View Details About Your PaperCut Account
  3. In person, at the Campus Store

Note: Once funds have been added to your PaperCut account they are non-refundable.

How to use PaperCut to send a print job
Opening PaperCut
  1. If PaperCut is not already open, navigate to your /Applications folder and launch PCClient.
  2. Once open you will see the PaperCut icon in the top right corner of your task bar and a small Balance for… dialogue box in the top right corner of your screen.

  3. The Balance for… dialogue box shows how much money is in your PaperCut account.
    Note: If you do not see the Balance for… dialogue box with your account balance click once on the PaperCut icon in the task bar to bring it forward.
Sending your print job
  1. Within the program of your choice select File > Print as you normally would and choose the classroom printer you would like to use from the Printer dropdown.

  2. Once you have made your printer selection and have chosen any customizations within the nested menus, select the Print button.
  3. A PaperCut Login dialogue box will appear, enter your college username and password and select OK.

  4. The Print Job Notification window will appear confirming details about the job you are about to submit. To send the job select Print. Your PaperCut account has been debited and will be reflected in the Papercut Balance for… dialogue.

Installing additional printer drivers
  1. The first time you send a print job to a college printer you may see an exclamation beside your chosen printer. This exclamation indicates that additional drivers need to be installed to use the printer. Select Print as you normally would.

  2. Your print job will be held in the print queue, look on your dock to open the print queue window. Select the blue i in the top right corner of the print queue window, the instructions direct you to go to the App Store to download and install the appropriate drivers. Click OK on this message and proceed to the App Store to install the HP and Xerox printer software.

  3. Once the printer software installs have completed, return to the print queue window and select the refresh button beneath the blue i. Your print job will now go through.
View details about your PaperCut account

To view details about your account such as transaction history and recent print jobs:

  1. Within the Balance for… dialogue click on the Details… button.

  2. A browser webpage will open, log in with your college username and password.

  3. Once logged in you can see details about your PaperCut account such as transaction history and recent print jobs. You are also able to add credit to your PaperCut account.
