What is Career Exploration?
Career exploration is the process by which people consider what type of employment they might want to pursue. Career exploration involves gaining self-awareness, knowing your interests, personality, values, skills and abilities. It also involves research into educational requirements, job market outlook and available opportunities. RRC has put together a Career Exploration Workbook to help you with this process.
Are there tests I can take to help me in my career decision?
Yes, there are many tests and assessments available on-line including those that are a part of Career Cruising. Please refer to the list of on-line resources available at the end of the Career Exploration Workbook.
Can I meet with a RRC counsellor for career exploration?

I think I know what I might want to do but I’m not sure what is involved in the program and if I can get in? How do I find out if there is a waitlist to get in?
RRC’s academic advisors can help you get answers to these types of questions. Advisors can work with you to formulate an academic plan. This includes providing you with specific program information, answer questions about entrance requirements and wait lists, and assist you with the application process.

How can I help my son or daughter with the career exploration process?
Many people do not know what they truly want to do as a career. The career exploration process can be very overwhelming and support from family is very important and helpful. Parents can support their children by encouraging them to explore different areas of study and career options. If you have connections to people working in a field, your son or daughter is interested in, offer to arrange an informational interview or “shadow day”. You can also encourage your son or daughter to download RRC’s Career Exploration Workbook and visit Career Cruising a great online career resource.
