What is the Directions Conference?

The Directions Conference connects Red River College students in Business and Applied Arts with industry professionals in many areas of business. Keynote speakers, breakout informational sessions and the popular round table networking event combine into a rich and rewarding experience for both students and employers.

The keynote speaker for this year’s conference is Bob Tallman, Chairman of Princess Auto.

Glen Buhler, founder of The Executive Network (TEN), one of Manitoba’s most influential executive networking organizations, shares his knowledge and insights in this important breakout session. Love it or hate it, networking is a vital business skill. This session will teach you the basics.

5 Career Path: The Changing Workplace Environment

The world of work is changing and graduates need to be equipped with the right skills to succeed and achieve job satisfaction. But what are employers looking for? As a new graduate confronting this type of environment, you’ll be known as a change maker, bringing your ease of technology, your new ideas and your energy into the workforce. At the same time, you’ll need to confront old ways of doing things. Renowned Human Resource Specialist, author, columnist and speaker Barbara Bowes of Legacy Bowes shares her experience and knowledge in what will be a very popular session.

Very recent grads who have started their own business – one right out of high school, one RRC Business grad, one RRC Graphic Design grad. Learn first-hand about the challenges and rewards, the excitement and frustrations of starting your business. Will you be speaking several years from now about your business?

7 Accounting Panel – From RRC to CPA and Beyond

Amy-Lynn Davis (Senior Staff Accountant, Ernst & Young), Theo Martin (Senior Staff Accountant, Ernst & Young), and Bryan Fosty (Business Analyst, Canad Inns) will talk for about 10 minutes each about their recent time at RRC and their path to the business world. The focus is tips on maximizing the value of the time spent at RRC, and then the transition to a degree, professional accounting designation, and the workplace. A Q & A will follow.

4 Personal Branding: Making Your First Impression Count

Your personal brand says who you are but you only get one chance to make a first impression. Public speaker, marketing expert and youth leader Lindy Norris shares her suggestions, insights and observations about personal branding and the vital impact it can have on your career. If making a strong first impression is important to you (and it should be!) make sure this session is on your Must Take In list!

 

 

 

8  Manitoba Business Success Stories

What does it take to run a successful business? Be inspired by the stories of two successful Winnipeg business women.

Christa Bruneau will share with you her recipe for success and how desire to connect with her community, her creativity, her passion for cooking and her knowledge of indigenous food and culture has led to the creation of Feast Café Bistro.

Hear Angie Lamirande’s success story as partner of Pop Entertainment & Management. Her exceptional blend of marketing knowledge, event production experience and her savvy ability to apply various traditional and new media marketing strategies has contributed to the success of many large scale events and talent in Canada.
