Orientation and College Preparation

Are you ready to go places? The Academic Success Centre has a number of pre-college programs to help you review and practice the foundational content and study skills knowledge needed to succeed at RRC. Be sure to check out our Student Success Skills website to learn more about proven study skills and test taking strategies.

Currently the ASC offers prep programs for Nursing, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Animal Health Technology, and many trades and technology programs. Find your program below to learn more about the orientation week created for your needs. If you are interested in joining the session be sure to register early, as space is limited.

Trades Math Orientation

Date and time: January 23 to January 27, 2017

9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Description: Note: This session runs one week prior to the start of your program and provides a review of the math and study skills needed for success in your program. Participants will review and practice foundational math skills such as fractions, decimals, percents, conversions, formula manipulation, perimeter, area & volume, basic trigonometry and word problems. Study skill topics introduced in the week include: learning styles, time management, note-taking, memory devices, test-taking strategies, stress management and critical thinking.

Tech Math Orientation

Nursing Summer Prep

Date & Time Summer, 2017, TBA. 
Description This week long intensive program will focus primarily on the foundational math skills needed to ensure that you’re ‘dosage ready’ to begin the Nursing program and the topics will include basic math, fractions, equations and units, mental math and an introduction to dosage calculations. The prep program is free of charge and registration is on first come, first served basis. The expectation is that you will attend the entire week.
