Red River College Awarded Training Contract with 2 Canadian Air Division

Members of the Royal Canadian Air Force and Red River College meet prior to the College delivering specialized training in welding to select RCAF Aircraft Structures Technicians.

Selected candidates of the Royal Canadian Air Force started receiving specialized training in welding starting this February 5 thanks to a new contract awarded to Red River College.

“This is an exciting collaboration for us because we will be working directly with the Royal Canadian Air Force, which is consistent with our mandate to support workforce development for industry” said Oyedele Ola, Manager of the Technology Access Centre for Aerospace & Manufacturing (TACAM) at Red River College. Natural Resources Canada have launched three new programs and are now accepting proposals. 

Smart Grid Program

The Smart Grid Programs request for proposals is now open. To receive the Applicant Guide and Proposal Template, please visit the NRC website HERE.

Before you begin the process, please check the section on program eligibility in the Guide. The deadline to submit your proposal is March 4, 2018 at 23:59 EST.

Energy Efficient Buildings Research, Development and Demonstration

The Energy Efficient Buildings RD&D program aims to increase energy efficiency and address climate change by improving how our homes and buildings are designed, renovated, and constructed.

Emerging Renewable Power Program

The Emerging Renewable Power Program (ERPP) was launched this January, 2018. The Program provides up to $200 million to expand the portfolio of commercially viable renewable energy sources available to provinces and territories as they work to reduce GHG emissions from their electricity sectors.

The program will provide up front support for renewable power projects using technologies that have not yet been commercially established in Canada at the utility scale, such as geothermal, tidal, and offshore wind.

Research on thermally broken concrete balcony underway

The Building Envelope Technology Access Centre (BETAC) team has partnered with the University of Manitoba and consulting firm Crosier Kilgour and Partners to develop a new thermal break, or barrier, to help reduce significant heat loss that occurs in high rise buildings with large concrete balconies.

“Commercial alternatives of thermal breaks are available but prohibitively expensive,” said researcher Dagmar Svecova in ResearchLIFE, a University of Manitoba magazine. Read More →
